Best VR headset 2026: Quest 4, PSVR2, or Valve Index 2?
Three radically different approaches to VR: standalone, console, pure PC. The right pick depends almost entirely on your use case, not your budget.

The three headsets target different enough use cases that a direct comparison doesn’t really make sense — the real work is figuring out which one matches how you’ll actually use it.
What actually sets them apart
Meta Quest 4 remains the reference for total freedom: no cable, no PC or console required, a massive library leaning casual and fitness. The trade-off: graphical power falls behind the other two for the most visually demanding games.
PSVR2 fully leverages a PS5’s power, with visual output noticeably better than the Quest 4 on compatible games, but a smaller library and the requirement of owning a PS5.
Valve Index 2 clearly targets demanding PC players: the market’s best motion tracking, full SteamVR compatibility, but a much higher price and a setup that needs a beefy PC and base stations.
The real deciding factor
It’s not image quality that should decide this first, it’s your existing ecosystem. A PSVR2 without a PS5 is useless, and an Index 2 without a PC capable of running demanding SteamVR titles becomes a wasted investment.
Verdict
Quest 4 for simplicity and wireless freedom, PSVR2 if you already own a PS5, Index 2 only if you have a powerful gaming PC and the price doesn’t scare you off.
