The real mass-adoption use case: QA and testing

Most major studios now use LLMs to automatically generate test scenarios from gameplay code — a far less flashy use than generative NPCs, but one that saves considerable time during production. Several AAA studios report a 30-40% cut in time spent on basic regression testing.

Assisted writing, a more contentious use

Some studios use LLMs to generate first drafts of secondary dialogue (ambient NPCs, item descriptions), always reviewed by a human writer before it ships. This remains the most politically sensitive use: several writers’ guilds have secured contract clauses strictly limiting it in recent productions.
