The game is free, available on PC, and stands out immediately for its urban setting rather than yet another medieval-fantasy world.

Hethereau, a city where the strange hides around every corner

You play a freshly licensed-less Anomaly Hunter arriving in Hethereau, joining the crew at Eibon, a run-down antique shop that takes on any commission as long as it pays. Between queuing at the Bureau of Anomaly Control, chaotic street chases, and a colorful cast of characters, NTE leans on atmosphere and vibe more than an ambitious plot. The game also layers in a healthy dose of sandbox-style urban life: driving, fishing, and assorted minigames sit alongside its investigation missions.

Generous and good-looking, but it doesn’t reinvent combat

On Steam, reception is solid: 83% of reviews are positive, with the city’s beauty and a comparatively lenient gacha system coming up repeatedly. The flip side is just as clear: the story lacks bite, combat stays fairly generic without much personality, and technical polish isn’t always there. This isn’t a game that wows with one standout system — it’s the overall pleasant vibe that makes hours slip by easily.

If you enjoy lively urban open worlds and accessible live-service games, NTE is clearly worth a try — free, low-commitment, and with enough side content to fill an entire first session.
