Ragnarok Zero: Global, our take on Midgard's subscription comeback

Ragnarok Zero: Global is the new PC MMORPG from Gravity Game Unite, Gravity’s Malaysia-based subsidiary. Servers opened on August 18, 2026 for Southeast Asia, Europe and Oceania, on a single client and a shared service across those regions. It’s a first for a PC Ragnarok.

A Ragnarok faithful to its 2D sprites

The game stays close to the original: 2D sprite characters, real-time combat and six starting job lines: Swordsman, Mage, Merchant, Acolyte, Thief and Archer. The loop is the familiar one: level your jobs, hunt monsters, collect cards and gear, play in a party.

What Zero changes

The publisher promises modernized systems for a more accessible game:

• a revamped UI and auto-combat;
• optimized travel routes;
• Zero-exclusive episodes expanding the world of Midgard;
• Get Poring (pet collection) and MVP Raid content;
• RO Factory, the first user-generated content in the Ragnarok franchise;
• eight languages, including English, French, German and Spanish.

A subscription instead of free-to-play

This is the real break from the norm. Ragnarok Zero: Global runs on a subscription, unlike the free-to-play-with-a-shop model of most current MMORPGs. The pitch is less pay-to-win pressure and less aggressive monetization. The flip side: you pay to get in. Prices vary by region, so check the official site before committing.

Who is it for?

Zero suits veterans who want Midgard back without a cash shop looming over it, and players who prefer more balanced progression. If you’d rather try without paying, Ragnarok Online: World Journey remains a free option, more focused on automation.
