Half-Life 3: the rumor that refuses to die, this time with a credible source
An anonymous Valve developer, a SteamDB changelog, and a job listing pulled in a panic: the pile of clues has never lined up this well.

It’s been nineteen years of this rumor coming back every summer, and every summer it fizzles out. This time, three separate clues surfaced days apart, and for once they actually line up.
What’s different this time
A SteamDB changelog briefly revealed an internal entry named “HLX” before being pulled within the hour — too fast to be a coincidence, too specific to be a hoax cooked up by a random user. Around the same time, a Valve job listing mentioning “narrative systems for a single-player campaign” vanished from the site, captured in time by several dataminer accounts on X.
Why to stay cautious anyway
Valve has a long history of dashed hopes — the studio let Half-Life 2: Episode 3 die without ever officially announcing or canceling it. Nothing here confirms a playable game anytime soon: a leaked changelog could just as easily be an abandoned internal prototype as a real project years into pre-production.
Our take
The pile of clues is stronger than usual, but “stronger than usual” is still a long way from “confirmed.” We’re watching, without betting on it.
